Stupid MOV stuff

I’ve drawn a new strip of Darwyn, and just finished coloring it. I will post it up here tomorrow.
But right now I’d much rather rant a little about an annoyance…

While drawing, both in pencil and ink, I was filming using my iPod Touch. I had created a butt-ugly stand for the camera to rest on, and the movie turned out pretty okay. It was long, though. Too long to allow me to upload to my YouTube account.

So I did the logical thing, copying it to my computer so that I could edit it, perhaps speeding it up so it would only take a few minutes. That’s when I hit the snag. The file was in MOV format, the one only used by QuickTime. And no matter how long I’ve searched today, I can NOT find a free video editing program that wil edit MOV files.
And no, I won’t pay for something I’ll only use once in a blue moon.

On one forum I was suggested to download something called “RAD tool” that would convert the file to something else, i.e. AVI files. Big botch. After spending the better part of 2 hours of encoding I ended up with a file of 4GB that had ugly, negative colors. And not only that, but the picture was shifted so that it was all nudged to the right, and was went out the right side was visible on the left of the screen.
Only a few seconds watching, and it gave me a headache.

Okey, rant over now.
Move on, nothing to see here. Move along…
